Disappointed you missed Count Basie and Charlie “Bird” Parker making music on 18th and Vine? Us too. This candle is designed to take you there. Inspired by late night jazz joints, this sultry scent will have you hitting your “Kansas City Stride”, all night long.

NOTES:  WHISKEY, TOBACCO, & ROSE

The 18th & Vine District in Kansas City, Missouri is recognized as one of the cradles of American jazz music, alongside New Orleans, Chicago, and New York. The neighborhood grew as a result of segregation during the early 20th century, as Black Kansas Citians developed the area with businesses and services that were unavailable to them elsewhere in the city. What resulted was a hub of culture and creativity which has left a lasting mark, not only on KC but on jazz lovers throughout the world.

Kansas City’s style of jazz contained more beats per measure and was more improvisationally played than its predecessors. This style was born out of the all night jam sessions for which KC was known. The district was said to have been a boisterous scene with drinks flowing (even throughout prohibition - thanks to Pendergast) live jazz music pouring out into the street and dancing until sunrise.

Some things have changed, but 18th & Vine retains much of its original charm. Now, you can study up on American history with a visit to The Negro Leagues and American Jazz Museums, or live out KC history with live jazz and cocktails until 5 am at The Mutual Musicians Foundation (as Kansas Citians have been doing since 1917).
